None of us wakes up looking forward to that gloomy, dark period when nothing seems to work. I am referring to that period in your life when it seems like the world has turned against you. That time when it seems like anything you touch breaks.
I have never met someone who says, bring it on, oh I enjoy trials and tribulations.
The reality is that it is just a matter of time before you must deal with vicissitudes of life. It is not a matter of if but a matter of when. The dark clouds are guaranteed to visit us at different points in our lives and normally when we least expect. That day will come and pass, I can assure you that the darkest night will come to an end.
Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achievedHelen Keller
Even though no one looks forward to the difficult days with anticipation, of paramount importance is who you become in the process. We hardly get to that point because we don’t allow that reflection to take place.
Not taking time to reflect is a great opportunity missed. What matters is the lens you choose to make sense of your trials and tribulations. You can remain in the victim loop or leap forward in the accountability loop.
Trials and tribulations shape our lives:
- Test your purpose: the tribulations test how true you are committed to your purpose. If you have not discovered yours, they are a sure way to assist you to discover one.
- Build character: you cannot develop rhino skin by smooth sailing through life, only challenges build character. You will never know what you are capable of in life until you must face tough times.
- Facilitate growth: you can only become better than you were before trials and tribulations. If there is no change in behaviour and perspective, then there is no growth. In every trial or tribulation take the experience more than the hardship then you have gained.
- Renews your perspective: you gain better insights about who to have in your life and which activities to focus on. In that way, your outlook on life is enriched.
No one is immune to trials and tribulations, however, the benefits that follow if you work on these experiences far surpasses the pain that you will ever go through.
