Rituals To Predict Success

Posted by

There are things that should become part of your DNA if your goals are to come to fruition. These are not big stuff, however implementing them will bring great results. These are daily acts that should come thoughtlessly like brushing your teeth. I want to believe that no one reminds you to brush your teeth, right? Daily might seem too much, however missing a day and the next one leads to a week of missed action. You loose momentum and that is when you hear people saying things don’t work.

What most of us do not realise is that, failure comes by routine. Equally so, achieving your goals is an outcome of how consistent you are on what you do. It is for this reason that I recommend the minor acts to be performed daily. Once you miss your routine, it becomes a challenge to bounce back.

These actions have been part of my DNA and are responsible for my achievements to date. I coach my clients on these and they have reported great results:

1. Reflect on your WHY

I have written my big WHY on the bathroom tiles where I can easily see it. There is no way I can miss it because I brush my teeth in the morning and before I retire to bed in the evening. This helps me to be mentally and emotionally connected to my goal. Even when I am not at home, I can easily do a mental check of my WHY. My WHY keeps me going and pushing beyond my limits. Reflecting on your WHY daily imprints a clear picture in your mind of the future you want to create.

2. Catch yourself doing something right

What I mean about this is that your values should be on autopilot. They should come top of mind when you step outside your house into the world. They should guide you about which relationships, business deals and initiatives to pursue. What you do and say must be driven by what you value. It should be easy to spit them out and live them effortlessly. You should be able to catch yourself the moment you are tempted to work against your values. Your values are the engine that drives your entire life.

3. Learn something new

Make it your business to be better than you were yesterday. Great athletes do not win the race during the day of the race. They win during practice, way ahead of the actual race because of the time they invest in sharpening the axe. You can become the best in what you do by setting aside 30 to 60 minutes to learn more about your craft. Technology has made it easier for mankind to learn and become better. The only reason why you are not becoming better is you.

4. Take care of your health

Most of us think that keeping healthy is about being in the gym. The reality is that it is not always possible to be in the gym. The gym happens to be a building with four walls housing the equipment we need. If you cannot be in the gym, take a walk around the block. You can do minor exercises anywhere, it does not have to be in the gym. Most importantly, watch what you eat.

5. Update your journal

Journaling has the benefits of providing a cathartic effect, an emotional release. It has the benefit of organising your thoughts. For instance, it became much easier for me to write my book by revisiting the notes on my journals.  You can use it to acknowledge yourself and others for the things you are grateful for in that day. You can rate your performance for the day. It does not have to be an exact science; however, it is important to assess how you perform against your bigger goal.

6. Give thanks

This is greater and bigger than just acknowledging self and others.  I truly believe our lives are in the hands of God. I also appreciate that for some people the devotion might be to a different source. I personally give thanks to The Creator for restoring my life, for grace and many other things. Your faith will guide you in this regard.
