What You Stand For Guides Your Dreams

Posted by

I believe that if you do not have anything to stand for, you will stand for anything and everything. Standing for everything means that you are without radar, tossed by winds and waters to any direction they deem fit. It means that when the going gets tough, you might betray your truth and be tempted to take short cuts because the dark seems longer than the bright side of life.

I thought about this the other day after I had an honest conversation with a friend so dear to me. My friend is privy to some of the darkest valleys I have been to since the past 36 months. She said, even with what you are going through, I hope you will remain the person I know you to be and that circumstances will not change who you are.

This was powerful to me on many levels but most importantly, it challenged me to the core. I took the opportunity to revisit my values and belief systems and this helped me to draw much strength from them.

At that point, I recommitted and made a pact with myself that I will stand for what I value and what I believe in.

“Always take a stand for yourself, your values. You’ re defined by what you stand for”. – Oprah Winfrey

Imagine if I did not have anything to stand for. I am talking here about principles that guide behaviour.

As individuals or organisations, we need strong and ethical values to succeed.

Most of organisations have values posted on their walls and company websites but the lived experiences of their employees tell a different story.

My question to you is, do you know your values? Do you live by them no matter how arduous the road is or do you chop and change them depending on circumstances? Will those close to you tell a different story? I personally stand for empowering others, building healthy relationships, investing in myself , personal freedom and making a difference in other people’s lives.

What do you stand for?

We will help you to answer this question in our upcoming workshop, Discover Your True North because we believe that knowing and defining your values and belief system will:

  • help you to follow your purpose
  • equip you with decision making skills
  • guide you to develop healthy and fruitful relationships
  • facilitate achievement of your goals

Don’t let these principles become meaningless and just another read. Take massive action today.
