Many influencers, educators, and pacesetters share wonderful words of inspiration and quotes on various platforms including books and social media. Audiobooks and inspirational video clips are circulated more than ever. I have always contended that if we were to integrate the lessons shared by these people into our daily lives and become committed to applying them, the world would be a better place.
We do not have an excuse of lack of knowledge but an excuse about application of this knowledge.
Knowledge is at our finger tips and with that, I have a promise for you: apply it, your life will change for the better. Ignore it, your life will regress further into the abyss of nothingness.
There are three wonderful quotes that I would like to bring to your attention. I believe that they will overhaul your life in 2020 and in this new decade, only if you take their meaning to heart and do something about them.
Discover the second day: The first comes from Mark Twain when he said that “the two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day when you find out why”. The year 2020 represents another year. You will be celebrating a new number added to your life. As you grow older, have you bothered to find out the second day? Do you know why you are on this planet? This is not meant to be a judgement, but just a few questions to help you reflect deeply about your reason for existence.
If you are caught in the quagmire that life is and chasing junk, you will remain unfulfilled and empty at best. Many people are caught in wishful thinking, hoping for a better life while holding unto unproductive behaviours. If that is the case then 2020 will be like all the other years. It will come and go, but frustration, confusion and pain will remain.
Stop the insanity: Give heed to the second quote by Albert Einstein. His words are famous but I wonder how many of us take them to heart. He said that “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results”
Until you discover the second day, which is about discovering your purpose, your passion, strengths, values and dreams, you will be trapped in the comfort zone. You will continue to fill your day with meaningless activities and spend time in relationships that drain you. If you choose to remain the same, don’t expect different results.
Dream the impossible: Constance Baker Motley was the African American civil rights activist and lawyer who also became the state senator. I agree with her words when she said that “something which we think is impossible now is not impossible in another decade”. The previous decade has come and gone. This new decade is here and will also pass. My question to you is, which actions and decisions are you going to take that will inform the legacy you want to leave?
If the year 2020 and this decade were to be phenomenal, you need to realise that change does not happen by chance. You need to be deliberate about bringing change in your life by asking yourself, WHY I am on this planet called earth? You owe it to yourself, your family, your community and the world to become the person you are meant to be.
